KAZ - The Zero Emission Vehicle

Introduction

A new zero-emission concept car KAZ is on exhibition at the National Museum of Emerging Science and Innovation in Tokyo, Japan. It has been built, and tested on roads. Although it is an electric car, it offers paramount performance unrivalled of any commerical electric cars available. KAZ can reach a maximum speed of 312km/h with a range of 300km when charged once for one hour only! The 0 to 400m acceleration only takes 15.3 seconds! In comparison, the TH!NK city has a top speed of 90km/h and a range of 85km. The maximum speed of the Toyota concept electric car e-com is 99km/h and it only has a range of 99km.

Main Features


It uses lithium-ion [Li-ion] batteries, which can provide three times as much energy and power as the conventional lead batteries.
The primary components [like the battery and the intelligence power module inverted] are part of the hollow floor frame. This reduces the vehicle's weight, lowers the vehicle's centre of gravity and frees up space for passengers and storage.
The motor [using Nd-Fe permanent magnet] is integrated to the wheel, so minimising transmission losses and hence increasing efficiency. This also reduces weight, and increasing the passenger space.
A regenerative brake system is available to recover acceleration energy and eliminate idling and energy loss during transfers. This increases the mileage of KAZ by as much as three times.
There are eight wheels. The four at the front drive the car, while the four smaller diameter back wheels [connected by hydraulic lines] improve travelling confort and cornering stability.
